March 26, 2000            See Salvation                  Acts 2

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

I received a Christmas card that had a special significance for me. I'd like to summarize it for you: "If our greatest need had been information, God would have sent us an educator. If our greatest need had been technology, God would have sent us a scientist. If our greatest need had been money, God would have sent us an economist. But since our greatest need was forgiveness, God sent us a Savior."

Acts 2:36 (KJS) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ. 37 Now when they heard [this], they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men [and] brethren, what shall we do? 38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. 39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, [even] as many as the Lord our God shall call.
40 And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation. 41 Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added [unto them] about three thousand souls. 42 And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.
  1. Have you seen it? Have you seen Jesus. God has made Jesus the Lord and Christ. He is the Savior and the Messiah. He is over all. He is over creation, over the church, over all including you. Have you seen Him? When those there that day saw him they asked the question what shall we do? What will you do?
  2. Have you decided? (v. 38) Repent and join up with Him. Have you believed and received Him as your Lord and Savior. Have you been baptized? Have you joined up with Him? Become one of his children.
  3. Have you heard Him? (v.39) He is calling you to come to Him. He is calling you to serve him for 24/7. He is calling you to preach, to pray, to teach, to tell, to invie, to work, to pray, to love, and to be his.
  4. Have you followed Him? (v.40) Then you have saved yourself from an eternity without God. He has thrown out the lifeline but now you have taken hold and said yes to God.
  5. Now we can see salvation. He is in you. (v. 41-42) Praise God for the salvation that we have seen people like you who have followed Jesus. You have repented of your sin and now he lives within you. You have followed the Lord and you are continuing in his service. It is because of people like you that we continue to see people coming to God to receive him and his salvation. I can see salvation now. He is in you.
  6. Can He be seen in you? If not then will you decide to follow him today? Will you receive him as your Lord and Savior. You will decide today what you will do with Jesus. Will you be baptized as he was? Will you follow the Father as He does? Will you join the church and become an active representative of the living Lord?
