June 18, 2000       Father’s         of Genesis

 A Sunday school class of first-graders was asked to draw a picture of God.  When the pastor stopped by to inspect their work, the children were happy to show him their drawings.  One had depicted God in the form of a brightly colored rainbow.  Another had drawn the face of an old man coming out of billowing clouds.  And there was one rendition, which looked a lot like Superman.  But perhaps the best was the one proudly displayed by a girl who said, "I didn't know what God looked like, so I just drew a picture of my daddy."

   The first-grader showed a lot of wisdom.  Nobody knows what God looks like because nobody has seen Him, but God has revealed Himself as a Father to those who are related to Him by faith.

 1.  What Father in the Bible never had a Grandfather?  Adam (Gen. 2:7)

Gen 2:7 (KJS) And the LORD God formed man [of] the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.

·        God’s first son was named Adam.  He has no grandchildren, but he desires a personal relationship with all.  He has created you and he will save you. 

·        God was looking for Adam.  God had a close walk with Adam before sin.  He calls for you and says where are you and who told you that you were naked.  Have you eaten of the tree?

·        God wants to clothe our sin in his forgiveness and walk again with you.  He loves you so much that he came down for you. 

 2.  What Godly Father walked with God and was not?  Enoch (Gen. 5:24)

Gen. 5:24 (KJS) And Enoch walked with God: and he [was] not; for God took him.

24  Enoch walked with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.  (NIV)

Hebr 11:5  By faith Enoch was translated that he should not see death; and was not found, because God had translated him: for before his translation he had this testimony, that he pleased God. 6  But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him]: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.

·        God walked with him.  He was with God.  He went God’s way through his life.

·        God was pleased by him.  What does it take to please God?  Do you want to?

·        God rewarded him for his faith.  You could be taken out in the rapture.  Will you be ready? 

3.  What Father had a floating zoo?  Noah (Gen. 7:1)

Gen 7:1 (KJS) And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.

·        God wants to save you and your family.  Saved from a life of sin that leads to death in hell.  But, we are saved to a life with God.  God calls to come in out of the dark, so that the light of his presence will provide all that you need throughout your life.

·        God will use anyone who is righteous.  That is, someone who will go with him in faith.  He will use you to save your family.  Your faith in him will be the key.

·        God wants us to persevere even under great pressure to give in and go with the world.  When everyone else says don’t build, God says to go to save you and your family.
