Smile, Jesus loves you!

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

A wise student described her struggle like this: "I have been walking through the desert for days.  I am so dry and just need some water.  I look around and realize that rain has been falling the whole time.  The ground is soaked, but I look up and see that my hands are clutching an umbrella.  I can hear voices saying, "You don't really deserve God's love, work hard, don't relax." I feel that I should not allow myself to get wet.  God is showering His grace upon me, but I just hold my umbrella and will not let myself get wet.  Then I look down and notice that the rain is splashing off the rocks, and my feet and legs are soaking wet."   - Phillip A. Coyle, Proclaim

Is there one person in the world who has everything that is willing to give it all up for your benefit?  Is there one person in the world who would always think of you before he would think of himself?  Is there one person in the world who would give you his all so that you could have it all? Is there anyone who would come to live with you and then die in your place? Is there one person in the world who would love you regardless of who you are, what you have done, and where you live?  Is there anyone in the world that would love you unconditionally?   This is the kind of love that the world had never known until…   Jesus.           Smile, Jesus loves you!

Communion Service and Friend Day.   Significant Relationships/strategic evangelism: Will you go all the way with Him?  Title: How far will you go with Him?

Scripture Text:  John 6:53 (KJS) Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you. 54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. 56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him. 57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me. 58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever. 59 These things said he in the synagogue, as he taught in Capernaum. 60 Many therefore of his disciples, when they had heard [this], said, This is an hard saying; who can hear it? 61 When Jesus knew in himself that his disciples murmured at it, he said unto them, Doth this offend you? 62 [What] and if ye shall see the Son of man ascend up where he was before? 63 It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, [they] are spirit, and [they] are life. 64 But there are some of you that believe not. For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were that believed not, and who should betray him. 65 And he said, Therefore said I unto you, that no man can come unto me, except it were given unto him of my Father. 66 From that [time] many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him. 67 Then said Jesus unto the twelve, Will ye also go away? 68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.

1.      How do you know that Jesus loves you?  How do you that someone loves you?  Love is an action word.  You know that someone loves you by what they do. Have you ever known anyone who could do absolutely anything and get away with it?  What would you do?  What did Jesus do for us?  He came for all.  He healed the sick.  He raised the dead.  He opened the eyes of the blind.  He freed those who were being held against their will.  He paid their bill when they couldn’t pay.  He loves us with an ending love.

2.      He gave you a way to live. To live in the physical world you must eat and drink.  Likewise, you must eat the spiritual food and drink the spiritual that gives life to the spirit.  It seems that the people there didn’t understand the truth that Jesus was giving them that day. What he gave them is a spiritual truth.  If you take Jesus as your Lord then you are depending on his sacrifice for your life.  If you believe in Him then you will follow him.  You will turn from your way of life to his.  Many that day did not understand or accept what he had to offer.  To drink his blood and to eat his flesh is to take him into your life.  Today, as we take of the bread and the grape juice we remember that it was his sacrifice that saves us.  It is not our faith, our works, our good looks, our gifts, but it is his blood and flesh that pays for our sins.  Do you believe this truth?  Will you take his way for you?  How will you be able to live without it?  He will live in you when you take him.  By receiving him and his sacrifice for your sin you open the door to your heart and let him in.  He gladly comes in and lives through you.

3.      The Father has brought you to Jesus and Jesus to you.  Today, God has brought you face to face with the greatest love ever known to humankind.  God has sent Jesus to you again.  He has given his one and only Son, so that you could become one of his children.

4.      Are you going to leave Jesus too?  66 From that [time] many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him.  John 6:66 is one of the saddest verses in all of scripture.  They weren’t smiling and neither was Jesus.  He wasn’t happy for them to leave. They were probably frowning too, because they had decided they would not follow him anymore.  Jesus is the one who won’t allow you to stay neutral.  He wants you to choose him too.   To choose him is to choose life.  Will you choose Him?

5.      Where else can you go?  Receive His love and recognize him in your life.

68 Then Simon Peter answered him, Lord, to whom shall we go? thou hast the words of eternal life. 69 And we believe and are sure that thou art that Christ, the Son of the living God.  Have you accepted His love for you?  Will you smile?  When you have accepted God’s love for you then you will understand the happiness that you can have in him.   Will you go out of here with a smile today?  Where else can you go to find the true meaning to life?  Where else can you turn to find someone who loves you so much?  Where can you see the eyes of the one who cried for you and died for you?  Where else will you find one that is the only living God of all eternity?  Do you believe and are you sure that He is the Christ the Son of the loving God?  Then smile and take him into your life.  He is the only way to go.  He is the original.  He is the one and only Savior for all of humanity.  He wants to be your Lord and cause you to smile with him.  You can have an affect on God.  You can make Him smile.  How far will you go with him today?
