September 16pm, 2001       “Who’s the Boss?”    Esther 4:11-17.

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

This is a celebration of women in ministry Sunday.  Reaching out as women (as you/we are).  Using the gifts and talents that God has given, Esther was called upon by Mordecai to step up to fulfill the calling that God had given her.  Esther had to speak up for the people to represent them before the King.  She took a chance.  Will we be willing to step up to the call of God in our life?  It is your decision.

Esther 4:11 All the king's servants, and the people of the king's provinces, do know, that whosoever, whether man or woman, shall come unto the king into the inner court, who is not called, [there is] one law of his to put [him] to death, except such to whom the king shall hold out the golden sceptre, that he may live: but I have not been called to come in unto the king these thirty days. 12 And they told to Mordecai Esther's words. 13 Then Mordecai commanded to answer Esther, Think not with thyself that thou shalt escape in the king's house, more than all the Jews. 14 For if thou altogether holdest thy peace at this time, [then] shall there enlargement and deliverance arise to the Jews from another place; but thou and thy father's house shall be destroyed: and who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for [such] a time as this? 15 Then Esther bade [them] return Mordecai [this answer], 16 Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast ye for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which [is] not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish. 17 So Mordecai went his way, and did according to all that Esther had commanded him.

Who is the boss?  Is it the king, Esther, Mordecai, Vashti, Haman, or someone else?  Who has the power and who calls the shots?  Who is the boss in your house?  The battle of the sexes continues, but who will come out on top?  There is no question.  There can be only one real boss.  Step right up and become who God wants you to be.

1.      Will you come into the inner court of the King.  Will you dare to speak to the king and or for the King?  What will he do or say?  He could speak to have me killed or if he points the golden scepter to me then I will live.  If we come into the inner sanctuary with the Lord what will he do?  He will invite you to live with Him.  He will ask you to become who he wants you to be.  What if He calls you to be someone that you don’t want to be?  If you dare to come into the inner court of the King he will change your life forever.  Will you be one those who step out with Him?  Jesus came into the inner court of the Father and He became our living sacrifice.  Will we follow his example.  Only the inner circle are allowed into the court of the King.  You have been chosen to come.  Come tonight, because you can.

2.      You cannot escape the judgment of the King.  Esther was willing to put her life on the line for others.  The only true living God doesn’t command us to take the life of the innocents, but He tells us to pick up our cross and follow him to a life self sacrifice so that others may have life.  We must be willing to give our lives for others benefit.  For those who choose to not believe or defy the wishes of the King there is a certain judgment that will come.  Heb. 9:27 says: “It is appointed once to men to die then after that the judgment.”  We will be judged according to his grace and mercy that has been extended to all.  If we so decide to come to him we will experience his mercy and grace, but defy his love we will experience his wrath.  You can’t escape his love, but you can choose to reject Him.  Don’t try to defy Him, but come to his throne room of mercy.  Will you go to the throne?

3.      If you do not speak then deliverance will come from another.  You will loose your opportunity to become who God has called you to be.  Mordecai warned Esther that this was her opportunity to shine for God.  This is your opportunity to shine.  If you don’t step up to bat when your name is called then another will be called in your place.  God will call another to rise up.  Why not stand up for the Lord today?  You may be thinking that He isn’t calling you.  You may be thinking that you are a woman and you shouldn’t speak up for the Lord or preach his word or do this or that because of what others may do or say.  When God calls you to his service he has a plan and a place in mind for you.  He will provide for all that you need.  He will give you all that you need to go on to become his servant wherever He leads.  It won’t be easy but it will be worth it.  Will you speak up?

4.      You have come for such a time as this?  In God’s plan you were born for such a time as this.  You were born and brought here for this time.  God has you in place for a particular time with a particular task in mind.  The terrorist who have recently brought our country to it’s knees were in place for a long time before they were activated to service.  They were called upon to bring death and destruction to an innocent people.  But God calls us out to be activated now.  We are his plants in a dark world where there is no light to shine.  Will we shine for Him?  Let Him activate you tonight to become the one who will share His Word and His will for those who are searching for answers among the rubble of life.  Step up and get involved in this war of the worlds.  The battle has continued since the day that Adam ate from the forbidden tree.  The children of light verse the children of darkness.  We are in a battle for the souls of men and women.  Will you step up and answer the call of God to be who he has called you to be?  When the suicide terrorists were taking the lives of innocent people there were others who were giving their lives for people who were trapped.  These men and women became living sacrifices.  One priest, Father Mike had removed his helmet in prayer for one who was dying when falling debris hit his unprotected head.   Others will say no, but God says to go…!

5.      Go and call on the boss?  Vashti thought she was the boss.  But Ahasuerus showed her.  Then Haman thought he was the boss, but Esther showed him who was the boss.  Ahasuerus thought he was the king, but the Jews prayed to the real boss.  He is the one who turns the heart of the king.  Call on the Lord and then call on the king.  Prov 21:1  The king's heart is in the hand of the LORD; he directs it like a watercourse wherever he pleases.

6.      If I perish then I perish.  Esther had decided to take a chance on the Lord and on what her Uncle Mordecai had recommended.  Let the chips fall because there is no such thing as luck.  This week two survivors of the WTC were interviewed.  All they could say was how lucky they wereGod directs the happenings of this world so that what will be is allowed by Him to fulfill His plan.  What will happen and what will they say?  Let God be the boss of your life.  He will provide for all that you need.
