January 13pm, 2002   Are You Seeking the Heavenly Father?  Mat. 6

Lord’s Model Prayer Sermon Series no. 2

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

The intimacy we can have with the Father is like the intimate relationship that is seen in the marriage relationship.  I heard recently of a Husband and Wife who had recently divorced due to irreconcilable differences.  Many were surprised that this couple that seemed to be getting along fine were now on the divorced list.  But, when the facts were examined it was seen that the two were never really together.   They had everything separate in their private lives.  They had separate eating habits, separate bedrooms, separate checking accounts, separate hobbies, and the list goes on.  When their private life became public it was a shock to most, but not to them.  They had been separate for years but still showed on the outward appearance that they were together.

Scripture Text:  Mat. 6:9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. 10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Our Father which art in Heaven (vs 9) - Opens the way for inflow of God into us.  our Father - Father - authority over His sons.  Have you surrendered your will to His?  Rule of love - Do you love to surrender?  His Will is our peace.

Is He is your father then…

1.      You know He loves you no matter what…He gave his one and only Son to die for you in payment for your sin.  No matter what you’ve done or where you are He still loves you.  He will always love you.  You can nothing that would surprise Him.

2.      You can count on Him always being there for you.  You know that He will never get tired, sick, or die.  You can call on Him 24/7.  He awaits your call.

3.      You know He will always do what is best for you.  Rom. 8:28  Even when you can’t see how it good be the best for you, you know that it is because it comes from the Father.

4.      You know He is perfect since he is the father in heaven.  The Father in heaven is His name.  He doesn’t make any mistakes.  He is always right and always does the right thing for you.

5.      You know He can do what you can’t.  He is bigger, stronger, and capable of doing many things that we can’t.  Many times in the world we can’t accomplish what we want, so we must depend on Him.  Phil. 4:13  We can do all things with His strength.

6.      You want Him in your life and He wants you.  He has every right to but in and try to work in your behalf.  You have chosen Him to be yours and you invite Him to come into your life and be your Father.  Rev. 3:20

7.      You know that He is responsible for you.  He will pay for you especially that which you cannot pay.

8.      You know that you can look to Him to show you the right way.  How many times in our lives have we wanted to know the right way or the right decision?  How many times have we wished that we had a way and called out on the Lord for direction?  He will be there to show us the way if we will listen, wait, and call.  He longs to show you the way, but He wants you to want him.  Call out on your father who knows the way to show it to you.

9.      You know that He will never change.  Mal. 3:10  We will change.  Our fathers will change.  We will sleep.  We will be sick.  We will be unavailable.  But He won’t.  He will be there.  Will you call on Him.

10. You know that He has provided a way for you to come to Him.  John 14:6

11.   You will hallow His Name.  By depending on Him and coming to Him you show the Father that you honor Him.  Hallowing the name of the Father is accomplished through our continual dependence and trust on the name of the Father who is over all.  He is over you and watching out for the beloved.  You are the beloved.
