Footprints

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the LORD. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the LORD about it: "LORD, you said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied: "My son, my precious child, I love you and I would never leave you. During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

Exodus 33:12 (KJS) And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. 13 Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation [is] thy people. 14 And he said, My presence shall go [with thee], and I will give thee rest. 15 And he said unto him, If thy presence go not [with me], carry us not up hence. 16 For wherein shall it be known here that I and thy people have found grace in thy sight? [is it] not in that thou goest with us? so shall we be separated, I and thy people, from all the people that [are] upon the face of the earth. 17 And the LORD said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken: for thou hast found grace in my sight, and I know thee by name. 18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.

If you could ask God face to face for anything what would you ask for?

Moses asked:

1.      Who will you send with me when I go to lead your people?  I will go your way, but I need some help.  Who will you send with me?

2.      Show me your way, so that I may know You and find grace in your eyes.  Teach me what I am supposed to do, so that I can do the right things and continue to go with you.  I want to go with you, so will you help me?

3.      Show me your glory.   I want to see you as you really are.  Let me see you.  Can you see the Lord?  Have you looked?  Do you want to know Him?  Then will you ask?

God’s Answer:

1.  I will go with you and I will give you rest.    God will allow us to walk with Him through our lives.  The way will be hard work and tiresome, but He will provide all that we need including rest for our body and soul.

2.  I will do what you ask.  Why did God do what Moses asked?  The reason God did what Moses wanted was that he was going with the Lord.  He was following God’s direction for his life.

3.  I have given you my grace.  Moses had just broken the Ten Commandments when he came down from the mountain and saw that the people were worshipping a golden calf.  He was a man who needed the grace of God just as we all do.

4.  I know you by name.  Moses had a personal relationship with the one true living God.  Does God know you by name?  Do you know his?  He is a God that wants to be known personally by all, but many know only of Him.  Does He know you name as one of His children?

God came down to Moses and spoke to him and made it possible for Moses to see and know who God really is.  He is come down today to speak to you and make it possible for you to see Him and know Him as He really is.  He showed Moses His glory as He passed by.

Will He show you his glory?  Yes, it is seen today in the bread and the cup of communion.  I Cor. 11:23-30

He is seen in the bread as the One who loves you so much to allow His body to be broken for you.  See Him in the bread as the one who provides for you all your needs.  He gives you strength that you to continue the journey that He has asked you to take with Him.  This journey through your life with Him will take you through eternity.  Hold Him in your hand and take Him into your life as seen through the eating of the bread.  Please take the bread and eat it.

He is seen in the cup as the One who paid the price for your sin.  He says to you today, “I love you and I have paid the price for your sin.  I died for you.”  This is the glory of the one true living God.  Love is embodied in the sacrifice that the Lord has made for you.  The blood of the innocent Lamb of God was shed for you.  Please take the cup of grape juice and drink it.
