April 13, 2003am    Freedom   Zechariah 9

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

This prediction from the prophet Zechariah comes true today on Palm Sunday.  He is here.  He is here for you.  Here comes the King of Freedom.  Are you free?

Zech 9:9 (NIV) Rejoice greatly, O Daughter of Zion!  Shout, Daughter of Jerusalem! See, your king comes to you, righteous and having salvation, gentle and riding on a donkey, on a colt, the foal of a donkey. 10 I will take away the chariots from Ephraim and the war-horses from Jerusalem, and the battle bow will be broken. He will proclaim peace to the nations. His rule will extend from sea to sea and from the River {[10] That is, the Euphrates}to the ends of the earth.

Here comes the King!  The captives have been set free!  Are you?  Have you?

1.      Rejoice and Shout because here comes the King!  Are you happy and satisfied with who you are?  Many are unhappy with everyone else because they are unhappy with themselves.  There are things in their lives that hinder their happiness.  Let the Lord set you free from your unhappiness and give you peace in your heart.

2.      He is Righteous.  He gives righteousness to you.  He will make you right in the sight of the Father in Heaven.  You will know that you are right in God’s sight.  You will be free from that insufficient feeling.  He will fill you with freedom from guilt.

3.      He has salvation.  He gives salvation to you.  You are set free.  You are free to be whom He can make you.  Will you go with Him?  Go with Him from here to eternity.

4.      He is gentle (but all powerful.)  He doesn’t force you but gives you the opportunity to know him.  It is your choice.  He is the gentle Savior who can do anything he wants but He chooses to give mercy and grace.  He loves you.  Will you return his love?

5.      He is riding on a donkey.  He is available to all.  He comes from the bottom up to you.  He came as the lowest so that He would be there for all to come to.

6.      He promises to take away war and give you peace.  What or who are you at war with today?  Is there a war in your own heart?  Let Him give you peace that passes all understanding.  To experience his peace you must first surrender.  Give up and give in to Him who is the King.

7.      He promises to rule from sea to sea.  Today He comes in invitation to you and me to allow Him to rule, but one day He comes in force to take His rightful throne on the earth.  He asks us to let Him be our King.

8.      Will He rule you?  Will you let Him save you?  Will you go with this King on the donkey?  To accept his rule is to go with Him in this life.  This is much more than just a life of coming to church.  This is all that some have experienced and thus have missed out the joy and peace of a life in the arms of the Savior.

9.      He will be your source of life.  Let Him be your lifeline.  The King protects, provides, and prolongs the life of his servants.  He is their source of life.  Is He yours?  Would you let Him be your King today?
