There's an old fable that says the Devil once held a sale and offered all the tools of his trade to anyone who would pay their price.  They were spread out on the table and each one labeled. Hatred, malice, envy, despair, sickness, sensuality -- all the weapons that everyone knows so well.  But off to one side lay a harmless looking wood-shaped instrument marked "discouragement."  It was old and worn looking but it was priced far above all the rest.  When asked the reason why, the Devil replied, "Because I can use this one so much more easily than the others.  No one knows that it belongs to me, so with it I can open doors that are tightly bolted against the others. Once I get inside I can use any tool that suits me best.

What has Dis-ed you?  Someone betrayed you,  Someone  left you, Some thing didn't come out, The Preacher that led you to the Lord has moved on as Moses had to.

Text:  Deut 31:1 (KJS) And Moses went and spake these words unto all Israel.

2 And he said unto them, I [am] an hundred and twenty years old this day; I can no more go out and come in: also the LORD hath said unto me, Thou shalt not go over this Jordan.

3 The LORD thy God, he will go over before thee, [and] he will destroy these nations from before thee, and thou shalt possess them: [and] Joshua, he shall go over before thee, as the LORD hath said.

4 And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.

5 And the LORD shall give them up before your face, that ye may do unto them according unto all the commandments which I have commanded you.

6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he [it is] that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

7 And Moses called unto Joshua, and said unto him in the sight of all Israel, Be strong and of a good courage: for thou must go with this people unto the land which the LORD hath sworn unto their fathers to give them; and thou shalt cause them to inherit it.

B. DISCOURAGEMENT

           1. Some people make a good beginning, but get discouraged and quit

           2. Reasons may vary:  church troubles, personal problems, lack of encouragement                             from others etc.  Signs of Discouragement:  Want to quit..    Start missing ...   Stop Participating.  Stop supporting....   No Desire....     Go somewhere else

Be En-couraged by the Lord . and Not "Dis"ed by the Devil....

1.  Remember the The Lord's Plan, Vision , and Desires for you. What is God's Plan or vision for your life , your church, and your family..What does the Lord want to accomplish in your life?

2.  Remember the Promises.  The Lord has given us the promises in His word that keep us going.  V.  6  Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he [it is] that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

3.  Remember the Victories.  This is the Proof of the Power of the Lord that continues to sustain us in our every day walk.  Remember what God has already done in our lives.  Remember the resurrection.  He is alive so we can live.  v.4  And the LORD shall do unto them as he did to Sihon and to Og, kings of the Amorites, and unto the land of them, whom he destroyed.

What should we do in light of the evidence before us.

1. Look Up! Focus on the Lord and His promises not the problems that beset us.

2. Go forward!  Move out for the Lord in our daily lives.

3. Take Risks , No Fear!  Take a chance on the Lord he has never let you down and He will never let you down.

4. Take Chances on the Lord he is a sure thing.

5.  Follow the Lord.  He knows the way.

6. Keep on Keeping on. Don't quit..

Are we saying Go Go!   or        Are we saying No! No!

Let us consider one another, . . . exhorting one another. --Hebrews 10:24-25

Amy had just about had it with her lively 2-year-old. The week had been difficult as she tried to stay  ahead of her little tornado. Over and over again Amy had to say no or give patient reminders about  correct behavior. It required vast amounts of emotional energy.

Then came the Sunday evening service. There was no junior church, and her little girl was at her wiggly, loud-whisper, constant-motion best. At one point all that could be seen was her feet sticking straight up in the air as she lay on the pew. Amy was frustrated and embarrassed. What must the older couple sitting right behind her be thinking?

As she came into the church the next week, she ran into the older gentleman. "Uh-oh," she said to herself, "Here it comes." She was surprised by what he said. "What a great little girl you have. She's  a special gift from God to you." It was just the kind of understanding and encouragement she  needed to make the task of mothering her active little girl easier.

We go to church for a lot of reasons--worship, giving, learning. According to Hebrews 10:24-25, we are also there to encourage one another. Perhaps today you can offer the kind of encouraging  word that lifted Amy. --DCE

A few kind words can make the difference between giving up and going on.

Psal 27:1 (KJS) [A Psalm] of David. The LORD [is] my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the LORD [is] the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

2 When the wicked, [even] mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. {came...: Heb. approached against me}

3 Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this [will] I [be] confident.

Psal 27:12 (KJS) Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.   13 [I had fainted], unless I had believed to see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living.   14 Wait on the LORD: be of good courage, and he shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the LORD.

Isai 43:1 (KJS) But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called [thee] by thy name; thou [art] mine.   2 When thou passest through the waters, I [will be] with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. 3 For I [am] the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel, thy Saviour:  Isai 41:9 (KJS) [Thou] whom I have taken from the ends of the earth, and called thee from the chief men thereof, and said unto thee, Thou [art] my servant; I have chosen thee, and not cast thee away.   10 Fear thou not; for I [am] with thee: be not dismayed; for I [am] thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
