October 26, 2003pm   Basic Training II:  Remember!   Eccl. 11

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Remember your Creator.  There is God.  He is active in this world.  He wants to give you a message today.

Eccl. 11:9 Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment. 10 So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless. 12:1 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them"-- 2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain; 3 when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim;

What in the world does God want?  It is so easy to forget.

1.  God wants you to be Happy.  Enjoy your life -- with God.  God wants to give you the best of life.

Eccl 11:9 Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth.

Eph. 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

2. God wants you to go with Him.  He knows the way.  Are God’s ways your ways?  Is Church Participation Important to My Life as a Disciple of Christ?

Eccl. 11:9 Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see,

Psalm 128:1  Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways.

2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

3.  God is watching you.   Whatever you do, God cares enough to look.  He wants to catch you doing something good.   Eccl.  11:9… but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment.  He will judge the good and the bad.

4.  God wants to put meaning in your life.  Everything is meaningless. All the things that trouble you are meaningless without the Lord.  Why?  All of life is for nothing unless you give your life to the Lord and remember Him throughout your days.

Eccl. 11:10 So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless.

5.  God wants you to remember Him in your life.  Eccl. 12:1 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth   Before long you will forget.  You will get older and things won’t come as easy as it does today.  So, remember him now.

Are you going with God?  Will you decide to go with Him tonight?

What in the world does God want?  Do you remember?

            Solomon the author of Ecclesiastes wants to know what is the meaning to life.  After all we feel like we must be here for a reason.  We didn’t just happen to be.  We were by design of a real God who is above us all.  So then, what does He want?  What does He want of me and of our church?  Here is what I hear Solomon saying in the last two chapters of his writing in Ecclesiastes.

Eccl. 11:9 Be happy, young man, while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you to judgment. 10 So then, banish anxiety from your heart and cast off the troubles of your body, for youth and vigor are meaningless. 12:1 Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years approach when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them"-- 2 before the sun and the light and the moon and the stars grow dark, and the clouds return after the rain; 3 when the keepers of the house tremble, and the strong men stoop, when the grinders cease because they are few, and those looking through the windows grow dim;

God wants you to be Happy.  Enjoy your life -- with God.  God wants to give you the best of life.    Eph. 5:18  And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; 19 Speaking to yourselves in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord;

God wants you to go with Him.  He knows the way.  Are God’s ways your ways?  Is Church Participation Important to your life as a Disciple of Christ?   Psalm 128:1 Blessed are all who fear the LORD, who walk in his ways. 2 You will eat the fruit of your labor; blessings and prosperity will be yours.

God wants to see you doing the right thing.   Whatever you do, God cares enough to look.  He wants to catch you doing something good. He will judge the good and the bad.  But he is looking for the good.  He won’t overlook the bad.  2Chr 16:9 For the eyes of the LORD run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to shew himself strong in the behalf of them whose heart is perfect toward him.

God wants to put meaning in your life.  Everything is meaningless says Solomon. All the things that trouble you are meaningless with the Lord.  Why?  All of life is for nothing unless you give your life to the Lord and remember Him throughout your days. Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these other things will be added unto you. He is there to give you peace of mind and heart.     1Pet 5:6 Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: 7 Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

God wants you to remember Him in your life.   Before long you will forget.  You will get older and things won’t come as easy as it does today.  So, remember him now before it is too late.  At a time when a lot of people are making God last on their list, I wonder where is God on yours?  Have you forgotten about Him?  Is He still God on your life?  You can enjoy your life much more by giving yourself to Him and remembering Him.  Will you?    Eph. 5:14  Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light. 15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, 16 Redeeming the time, because the days are evil.
