November 23,2003pm   Why am I thankful   Community service

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Ezra 3:11 With praise and thanksgiving they sang to the LORD: "He is good; his love to Israel endures forever." And all the people gave a great shout of praise to the LORD, because the foundation of the house of the LORD was laid.

I am thankful because He is good.

Psalms 95:2  Let us come before him with  thanksgiving   and extol him with music and song.  3  For the LORD is the great God,  the great King above all gods.  4  In his hand are the depths of the earth,  and the mountain peaks belong to him.  5  The sea is his, for he made it,  and his hands formed the dry land.  6  Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;  7  for he is our God  and we are the people of his pasture,  the flock under his care.  Today, if you hear his voice.

I am thankful because He is the great God, the great King above all gods.

I am thankful because He is our maker.

Psalm 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise; give thanks to him and praise his name.    5  For the LORD is good and his love endures forever;  his faithfulness continues through all generations.

I am thankful because His love endures forever and His faithfulness continues through all generations.

Psalm 147:7  Sing to the LORD with thanksgiving; make music to our God on the harp. 8 He covers the sky with clouds; he supplies the earth with rain and makes grass grow on the hills. 9 He provides food for the cattle and for the young ravens when they call. 10 His pleasure is not in the strength of the horse, nor his delight in the legs of a man; 11 the LORD delights in those who fear him, who put their hope in his unfailing love. 12 Extol the LORD, O Jerusalem; praise your God, O Zion,

I am thankful because the Lord provides for all, big and small.

Psalm 69:30  I will praise God's name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving. 31 This will please the LORD more than an ox, more than a bull with its horns and hoofs. 32 The poor will see and be glad-- you who seek God, may your hearts live! 33 The LORD hears the needy and does not despise his captive people. 34 Let heaven and earth praise him, the seas and all that move in them, 35 for God will save Zion and rebuild the cities of Judah. Then people will settle there and possess it; 36 the children of his servants will inherit it, and those who love his name will dwell there.

I am thankful because the Lord loves the lost, the lonely, and the least.

Isaiah 51:3 The LORD will surely comfort Zion and will look with compassion on all her ruins; he will make her deserts like Eden, her wastelands like the garden of the LORD. Joy and gladness will be found in her, thanksgiving and the sound of singing.

I am thankful because the Lord will comfort and renew.

Jeremiah 30:19 From them will come songs of thanksgiving and the sound of rejoicing. I will add to their numbers, and they will not be decreased; I will bring them honor, and they will not be disdained.

I am thankful because I have reason to be happy.  Look at the God side of things.

Jonah 2:9 But I, with a song of thanksgiving, will sacrifice to you. What I have vowed I will make good. Salvation comes from the LORD."

I am thankful because I can.  God has saved me.  Saved me from death, life, hell, and the grave.  O death where is thy sting O Grave where is thy victory?  The sting of death is sin and the strength of sin is the law but thanks be to God which gives the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.

1Cor 10:16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?

I am thankful for the blood and body of Christ.

2Cor 9:11 You will be made rich in every way so that you can be generous on every occasion, and through us your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God.

I am thankful to the Lord because He has made us rich.

Phil 4:6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

I am thankful to have someone to pray to that is able.

1Tim 2:1 I urge, then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone—

I am thankful that someone interceded for me and I for them.

1Tim 4:3 They forbid people to marry and order them to abstain from certain foods, which God created to be received with thanksgiving by those who believe and who know the truth. 4 For everything God created is good, and nothing is to be rejected if it is received with thanksgiving,

I am thankful for the Creator who created everything good.  Receive it with Thanksgiving.  Will you receive from the Lord with Thanksgiving?
