December 7, 2003pm   Pass the Peace   Matthew 10:5-15

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Our Mission is to live our lives everyday,

So that others can see Christ living in us.

Think about the types of gifts you have given for Christmas.  I wonder what has become of them.  Would you like to give something that they need, something they can use, and something they would continue to enjoy for years to come.

What kind of gifts will you give for Christmas? How about giving some peace?  You can give what you have or what you are willing to pay for.  But peace is the gift of God.  He has paid the price for the peace of the world.  If you have some peace why not give it away?  If you don’t have peace, then take the Lord and the offering of peace that he gives.  Then you can give Him away.

Having received the peace of God and the command of God to go out we have the opportunity.  The Prince has paid the price for the peace of all humanity.  You have received the peace of God.  You have peace in your heart, so now what are you going to do with it.  What should you do with it?  Enjoy it.  Now pass it on.  You remember that song.  It only takes a spark to get a fire going.  You have the spark.  It is the Lord in your heart.  You have the peace of the presence of the one true living God.  Pass Him on.  He is the Prince of peace.

Scripture Text:  Matthew 10:5  These twelve Jesus sent forth, and commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into [any] city of the Samaritans enter ye not: 6 But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. 7 And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand. 8 Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils: freely ye have received, freely give. 9 Provide neither gold, nor silver, nor brass in your purses, 10 Nor scrip for [your] journey, neither two coats, neither shoes, nor yet staves: for the workman is worthy of his meat. 11 And into whatsoever city or town ye shall enter, enquire who in it is worthy; and there abide till ye go thence. 12 And when ye come into an house, salute it. 13 And if the house be worthy, let your peace come upon it: but if it be not worthy, let your peace return to you. 14 And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet. 15 Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.

Go where you are commanded.  We have been commanded today to go.  (Mat. 28:19-20)

Matt 28:19  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: {teach...: or, make disciples, or, Christians of all nations} 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, [even] unto the end of the world. Amen.

Preach as you go.  Tell them about the peace.  Share what you have with those who don’t. Tell them the story of Christ and his love.  Give them the real meaning of Christmas.  How many fairy tales are there about Christmas?  Would you tell them the real meaning?

Tell them:  “The kingdom of heaven is here.”  This is the message of Christmas.  Christ is here and He is available to all who look for Him, believe in Him, and trust Him with your life.  Is God available to all today?  Is He nearby today for people to enjoy?

Pass the Peace.  Take peace and give it away.  Heal, cleanse, raise the dead, cast out devils, and give freely.  You can make a difference in a world full of disease, divorce, disaster, and death.

Go with the provision of the Lord.  Depend on God to provide your needs.  He will provide the words and the way to go and give.

Go to where the people are.  Go to the people’s houses and give them a blessing of peace.

Let people decide for themselves.  If they will not hear, then take back your blessing of peace.

Remember they are rejecting God and not you.  Give them the opportunity to have the peace of God.  Give them God.
