March 14, 2004pm   Is Love for today?  Ephesians 5

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Call 'em Tators

Some people never seem motivated to participate,
but are content to watch others do.
They are called "Speck Tators."

Some people never do anything to help,
but are gifted at finding fault with the way others do things.
They're called "Comment Tators."

Some are always looking to cause problems and really get under your skin.
They are called "Aggie Tators."

There are those who are always saying they will,
but somehow, they never get around to doing.
We call them "Hezzie Tators."

Some people put on a front and act like someone else.
They're called "Emma Tators."

Then, there are those who walk what they talk.
They're always prepared to stop what they're doing to lend a hand to others and bring real sunshine into the lives of others.
You can call them "Sweet Tators.

We will see how much you love God by:  How much you love your Family, Friends, and Neighbors.  How much you love yourself.  How much you love your enemies?

Live a life of love.  Walk in love.

Is the Love of God for today?  It will be if there are people who have Him and will share Him.

Ephesians 5:1  Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children

2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.

Ephesians 5:8  For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9 (for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10 and find out what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12 For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13 But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14 for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." 15 Be very careful, then, how you live--not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord's will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit. 19 Speak to one another with psalms, hymns and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. 21  Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so [let] the wives [be] to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; 26 That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, 27 That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. 28 So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself.

This is what it would look like if the love of God were for today.

Shining people who are the children of light driving out the darkness.   They are living examples of God in all goodness, righteousness, and truth.  Wake up and Christ will shine on you.  We must be willing to shine the light.  This is the love of God, which is not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance.

Wise people living to make the most of every opportunity because they know the time is short and the days are evil.  They are seeking to understand the will of the Lord and they are willing to live in that light.  See the contrast between the darkness and the light.

Happy people are filled with the Spirit of the Lord and not the joy of alcohol.  They speak to one another in Psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Sing and make music in your heart to the Lord.

Thankful people are those who always give thanks to the Lord for all things.  They understand that all these things are the will of the Lord for us.  They know that the Father knows best and they trust Him with their lives.  They give thanks in the name of their Lord who Jesus Christ who leads them as children of light to live a life of love in a world of darkness.  As much as the darkness would try it can never stop the light.  The darkness will flee when the light comes on.

Giving People would submit themselves one to another in the fear of God.

Have we submitted ourselves one to another?  Do we do so because we fear God?  Do we fear the Lord? Are we willing to give up what we want for the good of someone else?

Wives are submitted unto their own husbands and not anyone else’s.  Husbands would be the head and savior of the wife.  They would be sacrificing their loves for their wives.

Loving People who are like the husbands would love their wives as much as they love their own bodies.  Everyone loves their own body so this is our guide as to how much we are to love our wives and others.

A father and his small son strolled down the street in Chicago past the place where a skyscraper was being constructed. Glancing up, they saw men at work on a high story of the building. "Father," said the little boy, "What are those little boys doing up there?"  "Those are not little boys, son.  They're grown men."  "But why do they look so small?"  "Because they're so high," his father answered.  After a pause the boy asked, "Then, Father, when they get to heaven there won't be anything left of them, will there?"  It's so true.  The nearer we come to Christ the less others see of us and the more they see of Christ.
