April 25, 2004 am   Whole in One    Col. 2:1-10

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Intro:  A hole in one is a rare, but possible.  To become a whole person is to be complete, finished, and without any need.  The One is the one who can make you complete and His name is Jesus.  Are you complete in One?  Is it possible?  What if you can’t and don’t make it?  What if you don’t hold on or hold out?  What if you make a mistake?  What if you have made a mistake?  What if?  What if?  What if?

Paul gives us some valuable lessons in today’s scripture.  This scripture answers many questions that may arise.  How can I be saved?  How can I be complete?

Scripture Text: Colossians 2:1     I want you to know how much I am struggling for you and for those at Laodicea, and for all who have not met me personally. 2 My purpose is that they may be encouraged in heart and united in love, so that they may have the full riches of complete understanding, in order that they may know the mystery of God, namely, Christ, 3 in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4 I tell you this so that no one may deceive you by fine-sounding arguments. 5 For though I am absent from you in body, I am present with you in spirit and delight to see how orderly you are and how firm your faith in Christ is. 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority.

I.  What is a complete person?  (Spiritual-emotional-physical)

v. 9-10   Is our text for this message.  Can you be whole?

            a.  One who has found peace in a relationship with God.

Peace through the blood sacrifice of the lamb.

John 1:12  peace as a child in God’s family.  Are you a child?

His past life of sin is forgiven and forgotten by God.

His present life has purpose, meaning,  and He gives us something to live for.

His future life is secure because his sins are forgiven.

            b.  One who has answered God’s call to be a child of God.

John 6:44  God has drawn you to be a Son of God.   We are incomplete without God, but in Him we are whole.  Your relationship to God is fixed because you received.  Believe the impossible and have faith in the unseen.

            c.  One who possesses all the fullness of God.

Col. 2:9-10  Christ possesses all the fullness of God.  In Christ we are complete and possess God’s fullness.  Rom. 8:9 You have Christ then you have His Spirit.

II.  What is the Test of Being Whole in One?

            a. Do you believe He has the power to make you complete?

            b.  Have you asked Him to make you complete?

            c.  Where does the person of Christ fit in your life?

            d.  Do you have a relationship with God through the Son?

III.  How to Become Whole in One?  Would you? Will you?

            1.  Believe by Faith (without sight) that He can Save you.

            2.  Ask Him to save you and to make you a complete person.

IV.  Is Something Lacking or missing in your relationship?

            A. You are complete – completely saved forever.  Will you believe?

B.  The question is not that God can save you, but do you believe He is saving you completely and forever?

            Has something interrupted your fellowship?

You have been born-again complete.  But your fellowship must be maintained by:

            1.  Rededication.

            2.  Recommitment.

            3.  Confession.

            4.  Repentance.
