May 16, 2004   Team Sunday: The Path to Victory  I John 5:3-5

Winning with Grace and Winning by Grace!

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Life can be compared to a ball game.  Life’s struggles.  Life’s loses.  Life’s victories.

Scripture Text:  1John 5:3  This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

1.  Obey His Commands and accept God’s invitation to be on His team.

The coaches:  are God and the Holy Spirit through the Word.  He gives the command.  Shows His love. Doesn’t give hard or troublesome commands, but shows us the way to life and victory.   He allows you to make the choice.  God has drafted you.  Will you accept?  Accept Him as your coach and follow His commands for your life.

2.  Have Faith in God to win the victory over the world.

We must place our faith and trust in the Lord.  We must experience a new birth.

John 3:3  God knows how to give the best to His children.  He wants to give the best to you.  Will you trust him?  Will you have faith in Him?  He will enable you to be a winner. The perfect example of this is Jesus.  He trusted His Father, which led Him to die on the cross for you.  Then on the third day God raised Him from the dead.  Jesus has won and He wants to make you a winner.  Will you have faith in His plan for you life?

3.  Believe that Jesus is the Son of God.  This is the victory.

Many people believe in a god, but do you believe that Jesus is the Son of the living God.  There are many teams in this world that call your name.  Many paths a person can take, but not all lead to eternal life and victory.  There is only one that leads to heaven.  The creator of heaven and earth has declared that He is the way, the truth, and the life.  He said there is no other way to come to the Father, but by me.  There is only one true team.  Will you be on His team?

Do you want to be on a winning team?  Do you want to win in your life?

Here is the play it is God’s love for you.  How do you see it?

The victory is our faith.

This is how to win.  Listen to the coach, be on the team, follow through, glove on the ground, swing hard, run like crazy, step on the plates.  Shake hands!  Love God and live for the Lord.
