July 25, 2004am    A Rich God for a Needy People!       II Kings 7:3-11

By Ronald E. George at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

There is good news and there is bad news.  The good news is there is one true living God.  The bad news is that he is not like a lucky rabbits foot?  Is God like the winning lottery ticket?  Is He like the government or your president?  Is He going to solve all of your problems and take away the pain?  Is He going to make sure that you never have a problem, an ache, or pain?  Is He going to take away all the abusive people out of your life?  Is he going to cure every ill and fix every problem?  The good news is that He is God and as God He will do whatever God can do whenever God wants to do it.  Here is story that shows us that God will be God.  He is there for you and for me.

2Kin 7:3  Now there were four men with leprosy at he entrance of the city gate. They said to each other, "Why stay here until we die? 4 If we say, `We'll go into the city'--the famine is there, and we will die. And if we stay here, we will die. So let's go over to the camp of the Arameans and surrender. If they spare us, we live; if they kill us, then we die." 5 At dusk they got up and went to the camp of the Arameans. When they reached the edge of the camp, not a man was there, 6 for the Lord had caused the Arameans to hear the sound of chariots and horses and a great army, so that they said to one another, "Look, the king of Israel has hired the Hittite and Egyptian kings to attack us!" 7 So they got up and fled in the dusk and abandoned their tents and their horses and donkeys. They left the camp as it was and ran for their lives. 8 The men who had leprosy reached the edge of the camp and entered one of the tents. They ate and drank, and carried away silver, gold and clothes, and went off and hid them. They returned and entered another tent and took some things from it and hid them also. 9 Then they said to each other, "We're not doing right. This is a day of good news and we are keeping it to ourselves. If we wait until daylight, punishment will overtake us. Let's go at once and report this to the royal palace." 10 So they went and called out to the city gatekeepers and told them, "We went into the Aramean camp and not a man was there--not a sound of anyone--only tethered horses and donkeys, and the tents left just as they were." 11 The gatekeepers shouted the news, and it was reported within the palace.

Who is God?  He is Rich!

Psalm 50:10  for every animal of the forest is mine, and the cattle on a thousand hills.

11 I know every bird in the mountains, and the creatures of the field are mine.

12 If I were hungry I would not tell you, for the world is mine, and all that is in it.

What do you need?  The people needed food and so God provided.

Do you need to win the lottery?

Do you need to have some food?

Do you need to have health?

Do you need a friend you can depend on?

Do you need someone to provide for you?

Do you need someone to help you?

Do you need to someone to give you all you will ever need?

Do you need someone to heal you because you have been deserted through death?

Do you need someone to help you because you know that death is coming and you have nowhere to run?

Do you need someone to love you?

Do you need someone to get revenge because you have been mistreated?

Do you need someone to give you a reason to live?

Do you need someone to take away all of the problems out of your life?

Do you need someone to help you raise your children or grandchildren?

Do you need someone to help you bear the pain?

Do want temporary relief?  Would you rather have eternal help and hope?

Do you want Him/God?  Is it time you turned for some help?

Psalm 121   Look to the creator of the hills.  He is the maker of heaven and earth.  He will help.

How do you get Him?

What are your options?  The lepers thought about their options before making a decision.  Try to make it on your own.  Eat whatever is available.  One mother ate her son.  She was still going to die.  People will give everything else a try.  Give Him a chance to see what He can do.  Let Him fight your battles.  Let Him save you.  Let Him heal you. Let Him be your God.  Repent and walk with the Lord.  Invite Him to come into your heart. The Lord will provide.

What do you do with Him?

Enjoy your freedom in Christ.  Enjoy God’s gifts.  Enjoy knowing Him.

Give Him away.  Tell others what God has done.  Let others know that help is on the way.

Get to know Him better.  Spend some time with Him and go with Him throughout your life.
