January 9, 2005      The Pencil (object lesson)      Mt. View Christian School

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

What’s the Point?

Has a point.  Doesn’t it?  What is the point of the pencil?  It must be sharpened and used.

Needs to be sharpened.

Has an eraser

Makes a mark.

Can be used to stab someone.

Can be held.

Can be dropped.

Has a name on it.

Can be chewed on and abused.

Top ten uses for a pencil.  (Get a volunteer to act these out from 10 to 1 and I will ask the students to guess what they are doing.)

  1. Write with it.  (has to be sharpened first)
  2. Trade it for a pen.
  3. Use it as a nail to hold your house together.
  4. Use it as a tiny arrow for your tiny bow.
  5. Balance it on your nose like a clown.
  6. Put it behind your ear for a new type of earring.
  7. Use it as a fishing pole.
  8. Make it into a tight rope and walk on it.
  9. Write on your fingernails when you run out of polish.
  10. Sharpen it all until it’s all gone.

. What is the point?  The point is that God has made you in his image.  Just remember that what others say or do can have no effect on you if you don’t let it.  Remember that God created you and thinks that you are special.

What is your point?  Do you have one?
