The absolute reality of eternal life now in Jesus,

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Are we saved?  Are we saved eternally?  Are we saved right now?  What about if we sin?  Can I take myself away from the Lord?  Who is really saved?  Can you have eternal life now?  In Jesus?  How can I know if I have eternal life now?  What is salvation?  Do you have him or it?  Are you sure?  How can you be sure?  Can you be sure?

Ol’ Man Kline

A certain Mr. Kline, discouraged, defeated, and convinced that life just wasn’t worth living because no one cared for him, walked past a church one Sunday evening when services were in progress. As the congregation sang he caught the strains of that familiar hymn: “Saved by grace alone, this is all my plea. Jesus died for all mankind, and Jesus died for me.”

His hearing, however, was not very good, so when the congregation came to the words, “Jesus died for all mankind,” he thought they sang, “Jesus died for ol’ man Kline.” “Why”, he said, “that’s me!” Stopping in his tracks, he turned and entered the small auditorium. There he heard the simple message of the Gospel as the minister presented the good news that Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. Mr. Kline believed and was saved. —Richard De Haan[1]

Scripture Text:   1Joh 5:1 (NIV) Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well. 2 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. 3 This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome, 4 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. 5 Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God. 6 This is the one who came by water and blood--Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth. 7 For there are three that testify:  in heaven: the Father, the Word and the Holy Spirit, and these three are one. [8] And there are three that testify on earth: the  Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. 9 We accept man's testimony, but God's testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God, which he has given about his Son. 10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son. 11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. 13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

“Our business is people and

Our reason is Jesus Christ.

Our purpose is to personally live Jesus Christ.

Because of His love for us,

We can love Him and one another.

We believe in the absolute necessity of conversion to Jesus,

The absolute reality of eternal life now in Jesus,

And the absolute need of each other in the fellowship of believers.

Our desire is to present Jesus Christ In compassion and understanding

To every individual who does not know Him,

And to encourage and develop every individual who does know Him. “

1.  We believe in the absolute reality of eternal life now in Jesus.

Do you believe?  Can you be saved now?  Can you have eternal life now?  Do you?

2.   What is the absolute reality of eternal life now in Jesus?

You can be saved.  You can have a Savior.  You can have salvation and His name is Jesus.  It is real and He is real.  You can talk to Him and He can talk to you.  He will save you now and give you eternal life.  You must believe He is real and a real Savior.  Eternal life now is knowing that you have believed and given your life to Jesus.  You are following Him now and forever.  You can have him now and forever.  He is yours and you are his.

3.  What is my part in my salvation?  What is Gods?  What is your part in my salvation?  Is it all between you and the Lord?  What if I sin?  What if I forget or don’t feel like I have eternal life now?  Can I loose my salvation?  Can you loose your Savior?

4.  What about our Feelings about our salvation?  The facts of salvation and the future of salvation depend upon what Christ has done and is doing in your life.

5.  What is God’s testimony about His Son, Jesus?  “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.”  11 And this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”

6.  What is your testimony about God’s Son Jesus?

Can there be someone who is sitting on the fence?  Can you have both life and death?  Can you make if you sit the fence?  Can you have eternal life and not have the Son of God?  Can it be an absolute reality to have eternal life now in Jesus?

13 I write these things to you who believe in the name of the Son of God so that you may know that you have eternal life.

How can I be sure?  Will you be sure?

Have you stood up and testified?  What is your testimony?  Have you been baptized?  Have you obeyed God’s commandments?  The Lord loves you.  Will you love Him with your life?   Do you believe in eternal life now?  You can be saved.  Will you?

To Run After Or Run From

A young girl was being examined for membership in a local church. “Has Christ made a difference in your life?” one deacon asked. She replied that He certainly had. Trying to draw her out more, he asked, “Well, then do you sin any more?” The girl admitted that she did.

“Well, if you sinned before you were a Christian and you sin since you became a Christian, how has Christ made a difference in your life?”

The girl thought a moment. “Sir, I think it is this: before I was a Christian. I ran after sin. Now I run from it though sometimes I am still overtaken.”[2]

Quittin’ Meetings

I read this story recently: Sam Jones used to have “Quittin’ Meetings” during his revivals. He gave the people opportunity to confess their sins and to repent. Many quit swearing, drinking, smoking, gossiping … He asked one woman what she planned to quit and she replied, “I ain’t been doing nothing and I am goin’ to quit that too.”  —R. W. Pelton[3]
