2-12-6pm      A Flood of Love    Titus 2

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

God’s love has flooded the earth and on at least three different occasions. His love has changed the course of history.  We will examine these three different occasions and see how each has affected us.  His love gives the only hope that can be found in a hopeless situation.  God’s love floods the earth with Hope in a hopeless situation.

Scripture Text:  Titus 2: (NIV) 11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men. 12 It teaches us to say "No" to ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age, 13 while we wait for the blessed hope--the glorious appearing of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, 14 who gave himself for us to redeem us from all wickedness and to purify for himself a people that are his very own, eager to do what is good. 15 These, then, are the things you should teach. Encourage and rebuke with all authority. Do not let anyone despise you.

I.  Ancient past:  Gen. 9:12 (NIV) And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant I am making between me and you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all generations to come: 13 I have set my rainbow in the clouds, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and the earth. 14 Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds, 15 I will remember my covenant between me and you and all living creatures of every kind. Never again will the waters become a flood to destroy all life. 16 Whenever the rainbow appears in the clouds, I will see it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living creatures of every kind on the earth."

The sin of the world demanded that God send a flood to prevent his creation from totally destruction.  The flood of love was in the days of Noah, which was from God who said I won’t give up on my creation, but I will give them another chance.  I will call Noah who will build a way of escape and invite to believe in me and trust the message that I have given Noah.  The flood was a flood of water over all the earth.  It prevented humankind from leaving the presence of the Lord forever and preserved the faithful remnant.  God cares so much that he wouldn’t give up on his creation.  He then gave the rain bow as a sign that he would never again send the flood to purge the world of sin.

II.  Present:  Titus 2:11-15  (11 For the grace of God that brings salvation has appeared to all men) And continues to appear through the church who heeds the call.

The flood of love was in the days of Jesus when God said I will give them another chance by sending my only begotten Son to help them come to me.  He will show them the way.  The flood was the blood of sacrifice.  The flood of love today is in the lives of believers who like Noah have the faith to believe in my word and promise.  They are sent out to all the earth to flood the earth with my love so that all who hear and see will be able to come to me to be saved from the wrath that is to come. Christ came and now sends out the church as His representatives and the flood of love to all the earth.  It is the blood of His sacrifice and through the blood and water in the bodies of those who do the Father’s will.  The flood of love comes through the lives of the old and young women, the old and young men, and the slaves/workers of the world who have the love within them.  They spread the flood through the land by their lives that seek to please God by leading others in lives of humility and service.

III.  Unknown Future:  Rev. 19:11 (NIV) I saw heaven standing open and there before me was a white horse, whose rider is called Faithful and True. With justice he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like blazing fire, and on his head are many crowns. He has a name written on him that no one knows but he himself. 13 He is dressed in a robe dipped in blood, and his name is the Word of God. 14 The armies of heaven were following him, riding on white horses and dressed in fine linen, white and clean. 15 Out of his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations. "He will rule them with an iron scepter." He treads the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

The flood of love in the future is brought through the coming of the King of kings.  He is sent to bring the kingdom of God to earth.  He will send a flood of love through the armies of heaven (the saints), the blood of his sacrifice and the blood of the enemies of God, and the power that will force all of creation to bow before Him.  The Faithful and True One riding on the white horse along with Him are the armies of the saints of the one true living God.  They will flood the earth with the love and power of the Lord.

The unknown future is coming.  He is coming again.  We can partake of this coming flood of wrath and power through our faith in his promise.  Just as Noah believed and was saved.  Today we can be saved from the wrath of God that demands justice through the flood of the blood that is to come.  He invites us to get ready.  Just as he came the first time and died for all, He will come again and give to all the earth deliverance from the rule of sin, death, and hell.  Will we be ready?  Will we be apart of the bringing of deliverance by bringing the flood of love and grace?  This is our mission.

This is our mission:

“Our business is people and

Our reason is Jesus Christ.

Our purpose is to personally live Jesus Christ.

Because of His love for us,

We can love Him and one another.

We believe in the absolute necessity of conversion to Jesus,

The absolute reality of eternal life now in Jesus,

And the absolute need of each other in the fellowship of believers.

Our desire is to present Jesus Christ In compassion and understanding

To every individual who does not know Him,

And to encourage and develop every individual who does know Him. “

Let us flood the earth with his love.  This is our only Hope!  Will you join Him?
