Communion - Trinity Sunday

What's the natural response when you've seen God? You're convicted of sin. "Woe is me, for I am undone." The closer I walk with God, the more quickly I feel my sin and realize how much I need God.
It's like a huge mirror with a great big light over it. When we stand away from the mirror, things look pretty good: suit looks in order; tie looks straight; the hair, what's left of it, is combed.
But as you begin to move towards the mirror, things begin to show up. The suit has a spot on it. The tie is a little bit wrinkled. The hair is out of place. The closer we get to the bright light, the more we realize our defects. It's the same way when we get close to God. When we get close to him, we realize how much we need him and how far we are from him. We're convicted of our sin. -- Rod Cooper, "Beholding the King," Preaching Today, Tape No. 150.
Scripture Text:
Isaiah 6:1 (NIV) In the year that King Uzziah died, I saw the Lord seated
on a throne, high and exalted, and the train of his robe filled the temple. 2
Above him were seraphs, each with six wings: With two wings they covered their
faces, with two they covered their feet, and with two they were flying. 3 And
they were calling to one another: "Holy, holy, holy is the LORD Almighty;
the whole earth is full of his glory." 4 At the sound of their voices the
doorposts and thresholds shook and the temple was filled with smoke. 5 "Woe
to me!" I cried. "I am ruined! For I am a man of unclean lips, and I
live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King, the LORD
Almighty." 6 Then one of the seraphs flew to me with a live coal in his
hand, which he had taken with tongs from the altar. 7 With it he touched my
mouth and said, "See, this has touched your lips; your guilt is taken away
and your sin atoned for." 8 Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying,
"Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?" And I said, "Here am
I. Send me!"
1. Come into His presence today. We can see the Lord. Come close to the Lord today.
2. What does He look like? Who is He to you?
3. How do you see the Lord? Is He high and lifted up? Is He God in your life?
4. Angels recognize Him? How do you recognize Him? Is He Holy, Holy, Holy?
5. What is your response? Are you convicted of sin? Do you see how you fall short?
6. Will we let the Lord cleanse us from all sins?
7. Cleansing comes from the altar of sacrifice. The altar of sacrifice is the cross of Christ.
8. Will you let him cleanse your sin? Once we’ve been cleansed we have access to the presence. The Lord for cleansing must touch you.
Cleansing leads to calling. He is calling you to go for Him/them. Here am I. Send me.
