Nov. 26, 2006pm  Have you seen the Throne of the King?  Daniel 7:9-10, 13-14

By Ronald E. George Jr. at the Fayetteville Baptist Church

Who is the Lord of the Heavens?  Who is the only true living God?  What does He look like?  Can we see Him today?

Daniel 7:9 (NIV) "As I looked, "thrones were set in place, and the Ancient of Days took his seat. His clothing was as white as snow; the hair of his head was white like wool. His throne was flaming with fire, and its wheels were all ablaze. 10 A river of fire was flowing, coming out from before him. Thousands upon thousands attended him; ten thousand times ten thousand stood before him. The court was seated, and the books were opened. …  13 "In my vision at night I looked, and there before me was one like a son of man, coming with the clouds of heaven. He approached the Ancient of Days and was led into his presence. 14 He was given authority, glory and sovereign power; all peoples, nations and men of every language worshiped him. His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom is one that will never be destroyed.

Can you only imagine?   I am watching:  Are you?  Let’s look at who is He that sits on the throne of the heavens.

The Ancient One took his throne.  Where had he been?  Why was he not on the throne?  He could have been looking after you and me.  He could have been working on His next big project.  He could have been listening to your prayers.  He is still there.

The Appearance of the Ancient of Days:  His clothing was white as snow and the hair of his head like pure wool.  His glory is seen in his appearance.  This is the appearance of holiness.

“The Ancient of days” is the eternal God.

“Whose garment was white as snow” refers to His attributes of holiness and righteousness.

“The hair of his head like the pure wool” speaks of His infinite wisdom.

“His throne was like the fiery flame” speaks of judgment (see Rev. 4:5 ).

“His wheels as burning fire” speaks of the resistless energy and restless power of God (cf. Ezek. 1:13–21 ).[1]

What does He sit on:  His throne was fiery flames and its wheels were burning fire.  The fire of his power is seen in the throne.

What is that light that comes from his throne?  A stream of fire/light issued and flowed out from his presence.  The power of God is seen in the light.

Who are these who attend Him?  100,000,000 stand before the Ancient of Days to serve Him.  Would you stand before Him to serve?  Who are they that stand before Him?  Will you stand today?

He keeps records of all his creation.  He has the books that record the history of the people of the world.  What will be recorded there for you?

Look!  There is one who has approached the Ancient One.  Who can approach the throne of the only true living God?  It is one who is like us.  He lived among us and we beheld his glory.  This one is called Jesus.  He is our King.  He has been given the throne from the Ancient One because He came to die for all.  He is over all.  He is the King of kings.  He was called the king of the Jews by Pilate, but by the Ancient One he is crowned the King of kings.

The King of kings:  He is given authority, glory and sovereign power over all peoples and nations.

1.      He is given authority because he submitted himself to the authorities for you and me.

2.      He is given glory because he gave up his glory and was humiliated by his death on the Roman cross for you and me.

3.      He is given sovereign power because he could have called 10,000 angels in his defense, but he chose to give up his power so that we could become empowered from his sacrifice.

4.      He is the one who is worshipped and honored.  He came to die for all people of all nations of all languages.  He became the sacrifice for all people and now he is worshipped by all people.

5.      He is the King of kings.  He wore a crown of thorns for all people and now he wears a crown of glory for all people.  He is the one who like us gave himself for all.

6.      His dominion that will not pass away.  His kingdom will not be destroyed.  His rule will last for the endless ages.  He will never die again.  He is the King of those who died, but now they live forever.

Is He your King?  Is He the one you honor and worship?  Is He your only true living God?
