How well do you wait? Waiting in today’s fast paced society is seen as a problem. You have to wait when something isn’t working properly or when there is a problem. If there has been a wreck on the highway you have to wait in line to get through. If there are too many people in line then you have to wait your turn. Some folks like to jump the line try to get ahead, because they just can’t stand to wait. Someone once said “wait is what broke the wagon down.“ We plan our lives so that we won’t have to wait. We want to keep on moving. Is waiting a good thing to a Christian? One popular phrase is “I just can’t wait.” Christians can’t afford not to wait. We have to wait… Waiting is a fact of life that none of us can avoid. But the waiting that we are discussing here today is a way of life that people choose. Can you believe that some people would choose to wait? When I worked at Bonanza, I was a waiter. I waited on people to get finished eating and then I would clean up the mess. Waiting was my job. As followers of God, waiting is our life. We should be or become waiters on the Lord. The very fabric of today’s society pushes against this fundamental requirement for following God. Don’t go alone through your life. Will we Wait on the Lord?
Psalm 27:1 (NIV) The LORD is my
light and my salvation-- whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my
life-- of whom shall I be afraid? 2 When evil men advance against me to devour
my flesh, when my enemies and my foes attack me, they will stumble and fall. 3
Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against
me, even then will I be confident. 4 One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I
seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze
upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple. 5 For in the day of
trouble he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of
his tabernacle and set me high upon a rock. 6 Then my head will be exalted above
the enemies who surround me; at his tabernacle will I sacrifice with shouts of
joy; I will sing and make music to the LORD. 7 Hear my voice when I call, O
LORD; be merciful to me and answer me. 8 My heart says of you, "Seek his
face!" Your face, LORD, I will seek. 9 Do not hide your face from me, do
not turn your servant away in anger; you have been my helper. Do not reject me
or forsake me, O God my Savior. 10 Though my father and mother forsake me, the
LORD will receive me. 11 Teach me your way, O LORD; lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors. 12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for
false witnesses rise up against me, breathing out violence. 13 I am still
confident of this: I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the
living. 14 Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD.
Are you waiting for the Lord? Am
I waiting for the Lord?
1. The Lord is our Light. Wait for the light of the Lord to show the way.
2.
You won’t know of the dark because the Lord is your light.
I won’t go ahead of the light.
3. The Lord is our stronghold, so then I wait behind his protection. I won’t go ahead of the Lord and stay behind his protection.
4. The Lord will guide me if I wait for him. My enemies will go through him before they get to me.
5. I wait on the Lord to open the gate so that I may enter into his temple and live there all the days of my life.
6. I wait on the Lord to lift me up. I don’t raise up myself but allow him to exalt me in his time.
7. I wait on the Lord to reveal his face to me. Then I will no his direction for my life.
8. I will call to the Lord and wait to hear his voice. He calls my name and I am filled with his love.
9.
I have faith that If I seek him, then he will come.
I wait for the Lord.
10.
I am strong and
I have heart and hope because I wait.
I
will wait on the Lord! Will you?
Waiting
on the Lord didn’t break the wagon down. Waiting
on the Lord made the wagon go to the place it was created for.
Those who don’t wait go through the dark alone.
Don’t go alone. Wait for
the Lord.
Isaiah 40:31 (KJS) But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew [their] strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; [and] they shall walk, and not faint.
