September 2, 2007am    A-B-C it is easy as 1-2-3    Hebrews 13:1-16

Christian living is as easy as A B C.

Hebrews 13     Keep on loving each other as brothers. 2 Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it. 3 Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.

4 Marriage should be honored by all, and the marriage bed kept pure, for God will judge the adulterer and all the sexually immoral. 5 Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said,

“Never will I leave you;

never will I forsake you.”a

6 So we say with confidence,

“The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.

What can man do to me?”b

7 Remember your leaders, who spoke the word of God to you. Consider the outcome of their way of life and imitate their faith. 8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

9 Do not be carried away by all kinds of strange teachings. It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace, not by ceremonial foods, which are of no value to those who eat them. 10 We have an altar from which those who minister at the tabernacle have no right to eat.

11 The high priest carries the blood of animals into the Most Holy Place as a sin offering, but the bodies are burned outside the camp. 12 And so Jesus also suffered outside the city gate to make the people holy through his own blood. 13 Let us, then, go to him outside the camp, bearing the disgrace he bore. 14 For here we do not have an enduring city, but we are looking for the city that is to come.

15 Through Jesus, therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise—the fruit of lips that confess his name. 16 And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. [1]

A. Act like you love each other. Love each other with Christian love. Loving you, it’s the right thing to do.  Love is a choice and an action.  Act like you love.

B. Be hospitable to strangers and angels.

C. Care for those who are suffering in jail. Share with the prisoners and with the suffering.

D. Designer Living by God for God.  We desire the best God has to offer. Give honor to marriage.  This is God’s design for the living.  Then you will live.

E. Emulate Christ.   Remember to love God and not money.

F. Filled with God’s Gifts.  I have no need.  Be satisfied with what you have.  God is my helper.

G. Guided by the light of the Lord’s leaders.  Remember your leaders and trust the Lord as they do.  Don’t miss the forest for the trees.  Don’t miss the point.

H.  He is the great I am.   He is our God.  Jesus Christ is the same.  So don’t be misled by new ideas.

I.  IGTHOS   Greek for Jesus Christ God’s Son Savior.  Jesus’ sacrifice for us was outside the city gates. Many early Christians were persecuted and forced to worship secretly. The fish symbol served as a secret form of communication. Often the persecuted Christians would scratch this symbol on the ground to identify themselves to fellow believers.

Soon, Christians began to attach meaning to the word "fish" itself. The Greek letters for ichthus (meaning "fish", pronounced "ICK-THOOS") became an acronym: I=Jesus; X=Christ; O=God's; Y=Son; E=Savior.

J.  Just passing through.  We have a heaven ward purpose.  This world is not our home.

K. King of my life.  Offer our sacrifice of praise to God who is our King of kings.  “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid.

L.  Live it.  Do good and to share with those in need.  These sacrifices are very pleasing to God.

Philippians 4:13  I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  If you agree with the Lord concerning the best way of life, then accept his challenge and live with Him now and forever.   Ask Him and allow Him to work through you.
