A Real Super-Man? I
Corinthians 1:18-31

Today is the super bowl a game in which super men will play football to determine who is the champion. Superman who flies through the air is the man of steel. Bullets bounce off of his chest. Is there really a superman or is this just a myth. There is a real superman. His name is Jesus Christ and the Bible tells us about Him in I Cor. 1:18-31.
I Corinthians
1:18 For
the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us
who are being saved it is the power of God. 19
For it is written: “I will destroy the
wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.”a
20
Where is the wise man? Where is the
scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the
wisdom of the world? 21 For
since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God
was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who
believe. 22 Jews
demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23
but we preach Christ crucified: a
stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24
but to those whom God has called, both
Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25
For the foolishness of God is wiser than
man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.

Brothers, think of what you were when you
were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were
influential; not many were of noble birth. 27
But God chose the foolish things of the
world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the
strong. 28 He
chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things
that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29
so that no one may boast before him. 30 It
is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom
from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31
Therefore, as it is written: “Let him
who boasts boast in the Lord.”b [1]
1.
Christ the stumbling block. They
stumbled on who they didn’t understand. They
stumbled on who they did not accept or believe in.
2.
Christ the power of God. The
power to live the life that is acceptable and pleasing to God.
3.
Christ the wisdom of God. He
is the knowledge that God gives to those who seek Him.
He is the knowledge of life eternal.
4.
Christ seemed to be foolish to the world, but he was the wisest.
The world considered Him to be a fool, but to us He is the all
seeing and all knowing God.
5.
Christ seemed to be weak, but he was the strongest.
He arose from the dead to give the weak the strength that the world
cannot possess. He gave them life
eternal.
6.
Christ seemed to be lowly, but he was the highest of all humans.
7.
Christ is our righteousness. His
life was given for ours.
8.
Christ is our holiness. He
was holy and without sin when we can’t be.
9.
Christ is our redemption. He didn’t have to die but he did
for us.
10.
Christ is our boast. We
can proudly proclaim Him as our Lord and Savior.
We can tell the world that He gave himself for us.
