Funeral for a Cancer patient.

By Ronald E. George Jr.

How can we face life when catastrophe comes. We all decide how we will look at life. Everyone preaches their own funeral. Can you preach someone into heaven?

2Cor 4:14 (KJS) Knowing that he which raised up the Lord Jesus shall raise up us also by Jesus, and shall present [us] with you. 15 For all things [are] for your sakes, that the abundant grace might through the thanksgiving of many redound to the glory of God. 16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward [man] is renewed day by day. 17 For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, worketh for us a far more exceeding [and] eternal weight of glory; 18 While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen [are] temporal; but the things which are not seen [are] eternal. 5:1 For we know that if our earthly house of [this] tabernacle were dissolved, we have a building of God, an house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens.

  1. Life is a test of our faith in God. Shown by our life that is lived with or against God. Have we or Are we living with the Lord and giving?
  2. Life is a proving ground for our trust in God. When troubles come will we still be leaning on the everlasting arms? When pleasant times come will we still depend on Him.
  3. Life is an opportunity to get to know the one true Living God. Have you taken advantage of this opportunity to know Him now and forever? He is the God who loves you and died for you. But He is God and won’t fit into our mold but we have to accept him as he is.
  4. Life is an opportunity to get to serve God. How can we serve someone we haven’t seen? We serve Him by serving one another. As this family has served this loved one they have served God.

An enthusiastic believer in Christ, Dan Richardson, lost his battle with cancer. But his life demonstrated that even though the physical body may be destroyed by disease, the spirit can remain triumphant. This poem was distributed at his memorial service:

Cancer is so limited...

It cannot cripple love,

It cannot shatter hope,

It cannot corrode faith,

It cannot eat away peace,

It cannot destroy confidence,

It cannot kill friendship,

It cannot shut out memories,

It cannot silence courage,

It cannot invade the soul,

It cannot reduce eternal life,

It cannot quench the Spirit,

It cannot lessen the power of the resurrection.

Will we trust in the Lord for the help, strength, love, comfort that we need for the day. He hasn’t promised us tomorrow. Trust and Obey for there is no other way to find happiness in Jesus.
